The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck

  1. IDEA 1

    Choose what to care about

You only have so much attention and emotional energy. The skill isn't caring about nothing; it's caring about fewer, better things. Decide deliberately which problems deserve you.

  2. IDEA 2

Pain is part of the deal

Every goal comes with its own kind of suffering. The real question isn't what you want, but what struggle you're willing to sustain. Pick the pain you can enjoy.

  3. IDEA 3

    Responsibility is not fault

Many bad things happen that aren't your fault, but how you respond is always your responsibility. Taking ownership of the response is where your power comes back.

Everything Is F*cked

  1. IDEA 1

    Hope needs a story

People need something to hope for to keep going, and they build value systems and causes to supply it. Notice which hopes you have borrowed and whether they actually serve you.

  2. IDEA 2

The thinking brain and the feeling brain

Emotion drives the car; reason mostly navigates. Instead of trying to overpower feelings, negotiate with them and steer them toward better choices.

  3. IDEA 3

    Treat people as ends

Use the old moral test: never treat people only as a means to your goals. Relationships built on transactions collapse when the deal stops paying.

Models

  1. IDEA 1

    Attraction comes from honesty

Being honest about who you are and what you want attracts the right people and repels the wrong ones. Both outcomes save you time.

  2. IDEA 2

    Polarise on purpose

Trying to be liked by everyone makes you forgettable. Show your real opinions and interests; some people will lose interest, and the ones who stay are a better fit.

  3. IDEA 3

    Neediness is the turn-off

Placing more value on others' approval than on your own standards reads as needy. Build a life you care about so approval becomes a bonus, not a requirement.
