The Mind Map Book
- IDEA 1
Mind maps mirror how we think
Buzan argues that the brain thinks in a radiant way, with ideas branching out from a centre, rather than in straight lines. Mind maps imitate this by placing a central idea in the middle of a page and drawing branches outward.
- IDEA 2
Start with a central image
Buzan recommends starting a mind map with a central image representing the main topic. Images engage the brain more than words alone. The picture gives the brain a strong anchor, so everything else on the page connects back to it.
- IDEA 3
Use keywords on branches
Buzan suggests writing single keywords on curved branches radiating from the centre. Keywords are easier to remember than full sentences. A single word on each branch leaves room for more branches to grow from it, and keeps the map clear.
