The Captain Class
- IDEA 1
Great teams had great captains
Walker studied the most dominant sports teams in history and found that the common factor was not a star player or coach, but a particular kind of captain. These captains led quietly from the middle of the team.
- IDEA 2
Captains were dogged
Walker found that great captains showed extreme doggedness and focus. They never gave up. In Walker's view, such captains stayed with a task for a long time and kept working even when the result was uncertain.
- IDEA 3
They played aggressively within rules
Great captains pushed the limits of the rules. They were fierce competitors. In Walker's view, they stretched what was allowed, but stayed inside the rules, and this gave them an edge over opponents.
