The Bullet Journal Method

  1. IDEA 1

Writing everything down calms the mind

Carroll created the method while struggling to focus as a young person with attention difficulties. He suggests starting with a mental inventory: write down everything you are doing, should do and want to do. Seeing it all on paper shows what truly deserves your time.

  2. IDEA 2

Rapid Logging captures life in bullets

Instead of long diary entries, Carroll uses short lines marked by simple symbols. A dot means a task, a circle means an event, and a dash means a note. This quick shorthand lets you record your day fast while still keeping it organised and easy to scan.

  3. IDEA 3

Four core modules structure the notebook

The method rests on four basic sections. The Index helps you find things, the Future Log holds plans for coming months, the Monthly Log gives an overview of the current month, and the Daily Log captures each day. Together they keep a simple notebook from becoming chaos.
