The 5 Second Rule

  1. IDEA 1

    Count down and move

When you feel the instinct to act on a goal, count 5-4-3-2-1 and physically move before your brain talks you out of it. The countdown interrupts hesitation and shifts you into action.

  2. IDEA 2

    You'll never feel like it

Waiting to feel motivated means waiting forever for hard things. Feelings tend to follow action, not the other way round. Start, and motivation usually catches up.

  3. IDEA 3

    Everyday courage

Life changes through small brave moments: speaking up in a meeting, sending the email, making the call. These acts of everyday courage compound more than rare dramatic leaps.

The Let Them Theory

  1. IDEA 1

    Let them

When people act in ways you can't control, such as leaving you out or disagreeing, let them. Trying to manage other adults drains energy you could use on your own life.

  2. IDEA 2

    Then, let me

Letting go is only half the move. The second half is asking what you will do now. Your response is the part you actually control, so put your energy there.

  3. IDEA 3

    Stop chasing approval

Trying to make everyone like you is exhausting and impossible. Let people think what they think. Focus on whether you respect how you acted.
