   Life comes in three stages

   Tegmark describes three stages of life. Life 1.0 can only evolve its body and behaviour, Life 2.0, like humans, can learn new skills, and Life 3.0 could redesign both its software and hardware.

2. IDEA 2

   General AI may be possible

   Tegmark argues that artificial general intelligence, machines that can learn any task as well as humans, may be built in the coming decades. He treats this as a serious possibility to prepare for.

3. IDEA 3

   Intelligence could explode

   Tegmark describes how an AI able to improve itself might rapidly become far more capable than humans. This could happen faster than people expect. Each improvement would speed up the next one, so the gap could grow very quickly.
