3 key ideas, each explained in our own words.

Mahavira: Nonviolence and Many Views

  1. IDEA 1

    Ahimsa in thought and act

Mahavira taught nonviolence toward all living beings, in action, word and thought. It is among the strictest ethical codes and influenced Gandhi.

  2. IDEA 2

    Anekantavada: many-sidedness

Truth has many sides, and each view may capture only part of it. Humility about one's own position helps in debate and conflict resolution.

  3. IDEA 3

    Aparigraha: non-possession

He urged limiting possessions and attachment. Fewer wants mean less greed, less conflict and more freedom.
