Being Wrong

  1. IDEA 1

Being wrong feels like being right

Schulz points out that while we are wrong, it feels exactly like being right. We only realise our mistakes afterwards, which she calls error blindness, and this makes errors very hard to catch.

  2. IDEA 2

Error is part of being human

Schulz argues that being wrong is not a rare failure but a normal part of how minds work. Our ability to make mistakes comes from the same imagination and guesswork that make us intelligent.

  3. IDEA 3

    Our senses can deceive us

Schulz describes optical illusions and perception errors to show that even what we see is the brain's interpretation. If our senses can mislead us, our more complex beliefs can too.
